Bae Kyung-hoon, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Ministry of Science and ICT, met with major domestic artificial intelligence (AI) corporations on the 18th at the main conference room of the Science and Technology Advisory Council in Jongno-gu, Seoul, to discuss ways to secure independent AI and expand AI services to the public.
At the meeting, representatives from leading domestic AI corporations attended, including LG AI Research Institute, Upstage, SK Telecom, Motif Technologies, as well as Naver, Kakao, and NC AI, which are participating in the independent AI foundation model project. Participants discussed the need for independent AI from a national security perspective and ways to promote AI services that the public can feel.
Bae, the deputy prime minister, said, "Since the launch of the current administration, even in a short period of time, our world-class AI corporations have been releasing independent AI models one after another, building an AI ecosystem that draws global attention." He added, "In connection with the recent situation in the Middle East, the need to secure independent AI for autonomous control and balance as a strategic national asset is being further emphasized."
Bae also said, "The ultimate goal of independent AI development is to provide services through which the public can enjoy and feel the benefits of AI," and asked, "Please join forces so that our corporations can be born to compete confidently on the world stage through bold investment and challenges even in the AI era."
