NCSOFT said on the 17th it is pursuing legal action against operators of illegal private servers that infringed the copyright of "Lineage."
NCSOFT said the Seoul Central District Court granted its request to provisionally seize bank accounts belonging to operators of four illegal private servers (Love Server, Skeleton Server, Lightning Server, Aura Server). It is also pursuing a damages lawsuit against the operators.
NCSOFT pursued legal action on the view that the illegal private server operators profited from users and disrupted normal game services. The Seoul Central District Court granted the seizure request, finding that the claim for damages was substantiated and that preservation was necessary.
The illegal private server operators are believed to have illegally copied and modified NCSOFT's intellectual property (IP), the "Lineage" server and client, and distributed them. This constitutes a violation of the Game Industry Promotion Act.
Kim Hae-ma-jung, head of NCSOFT's Legal Center, said, "Illegal private servers generate revenue through currency exchanges of in-game assets and item transaction, and cause damage to users and game companies in the course of operation," and added, "We will continue legal action in cooperation with experts."
