Elon Musk, Tesla's chief executive officer, unveiled on the 11th (local time) a joint project between his artificial intelligence (AI) startup xAI and Tesla.
Musk said on his X (formerly Twitter) account that the joint project is called "Macrohard" or "Digital Optimus" and that they are building an intelligent AI system.
Digital Optimus, named after Tesla's Humanoid Robot Optimus, will handle computer screens, keyboard and mouse operations, while xAI's AI model Grok will direct the overall course, working together in that way. It is, in effect, an intelligent AI system designed to observe computer screens and mimic human behavior to automate complex office tasks.
Musk said, "Grok serves as the navigator directing Digital Optimus," adding, "Think of Grok as an advanced version of the existing turn-by-turn navigation software."
He added, "By analogy with human thinking, Digital Optimus corresponds to System 1, which is intuitive thinking, and Grok corresponds to System 2, which handles analytical thinking."
The biggest feature of this project is that it aims to replace existing corporate structures with AI. Musk said, "In principle, it is possible to imitate the functions of a corporation wholesale," and that this is why the program is humorously named "Macrohard," a play on Microsoft, which is famous for office software.
The system runs on Tesla's AI chip AI4 and is designed to use xAI's relatively high-priced Nvidia-based server hardware relatively efficiently. Musk said, "There is no corporations anywhere (other than Tesla-xAI) that can implement such a system," offering a favorable self-assessment.
