Google said on the 11th (local time) that it has finalized its acquisition of Wiz, an Israeli cybersecurity corporations based in New York.
Earlier, in Mar. last year, Google announced it would buy the cloud and artificial intelligence (AI) security corporations Wiz for $32 billion (about 45 trillion won), and the acquisition has now been completed. At the time, this transaction drew attention as the largest merger and acquisition (M&A) in the company's history. With this acquisition, Wiz will be integrated into Google Cloud.
On the day, Google Cloud said, "We carried out this acquisition to help corporations quickly and securely build systems on any cloud or AI platform." According to Google Cloud, Wiz provides an easy-to-use security platform based on deep expertise in cloud environments and code, and consolidations it to all major clouds to help prevent and respond to cybersecurity incidents.
Google Cloud and Wiz plan to build an integrated security platform that improves organizations' speed of threat detection, prevention, and response. This will allow corporations to quickly detect new threats based on AI models and defend against attacks targeting AI models. It will also help security experts use AI to track threats more effectively.
Google Cloud said the security platform provides consistent tools, processes, and policies across the entire process from coding to cloud deployment to service operation in all major cloud environments.
In the AI era, as more and more corporations and government agencies move core data and systems to the cloud, the number of organizations operating in a Multi-Cloud environment and adopting AI is increasing. In response, hackers are using AI to carry out attacks targeting vulnerabilities in Multi-Cloud environments. A Google Cloud official said, "The integrated platform is also expected to help protect small and midsize corporations that lack security personnel and resources from increasingly sophisticated and destructive cyber threats."
Thomas Kurian, Google Cloud chief executive officer (CEO), said, "Our goal is to make security not a barrier to innovation but a springboard that accelerates it," adding, "Through this acquisition, we will provide an integrated security platform that makes the complex Multi-Cloud security of the AI era easy to manage, helping more corporations and government agencies build a strong security posture."
