A survey found that 95% of game studios worldwide that use the Unity game engine are using artificial intelligence (AI) in their work.
Unity said on the 11th that it published the "2026 Unity game development report," which covers key development trends in the game industry. The report was compiled based on a survey of 300 game developers worldwide and data from about 5 million developers who used the Unity engine last year.
According to the report, studios mainly use AI tools for backend development (server and system development) and planning tasks. Of respondents, 95% said "they are already using AI in their work," and 62% was found to be using AI for coding. Writing and narrative design came in at 44%, followed by concept art and other game asset (development material) production at 35%.
The main benefit of using AI was improved efficiency (73%), followed by better decision-making (62%) and resource savings (51%).
An analysis also found that game studios are focusing on smaller games with shorter development cycles rather than large projects that require a lot of time and expense. According to the report, more than half of developers (52%) are concentrating on smaller, more manageable projects, and 20% said development times are getting shorter.
Role-playing (55%), strategy (53%), and action-adventure (52%) games remained among the top preferred genres, but by theme alone, 73% of studios were found to be developing accessible casual games.
Among emerging markets preferred by studios, India ranked first at 73%, followed by Malaysia (51%), Brazil (43%), Indonesia (43%), and Thailand (33%).
