Samsung Electronics said on the 1st that it will convert its domestic and overseas production plants into "AI driven factory" by 2030. An AI driven factory is a plant that actively applies AI across all manufacturing processes.
Samsung Electronics plans to introduce Digital Twin-based simulation across all processes from material receipt to production and shipment, and to innovate quality and productivity throughout its global production hubs by strengthening data-driven analysis and pre-verification through quality, production, and logistics AI agents.
It also plans to expand AI application to environment and safety to detect potential risk factors in production sites in advance and prevent accidents, thereby raising safety levels on the manufacturing floor.
Samsung Electronics, building on the AI experience and technology accumulated in its mobile business, will apply the "agentic AI" introduced with the Galaxy S26 to manufacturing innovation. "Agentic AI" refers to AI that devises and executes its own plans to achieve goals.
Samsung Electronics plans to enhance the foundation for on-site autonomy by intelligentizing production, equipment, repair, and logistics through AI agents.
To move beyond automation to autonomy, Samsung Electronics is also pushing step-by-step adoption of humanoid-type manufacturing robots across all manufacturing processes.
Going forward, Samsung Electronics plans to combine AI with △ operating bots that manage production lines and equipment, △ logistics bots responsible for material transport, and △ assembly bots that carry out assembly processes to realize an optimized manufacturing site.
In particular, for infrastructure facilities where it is difficult for people to work due to high temperatures and high noise, it will apply Digital Twin-based environment-safety bots to strengthen work safety and systematically reduce on-site risks.
Vice President Lee Young-su, head of the Production Technology Research Institute at Samsung Electronics, said, "The future of manufacturing innovation goes beyond simple automation; the key is building autonomous manufacturing sites where AI understands the field and executes optimal decisions on its own," and added, "We will reinvent ourselves as the center of global manufacturing innovation combined with AI."
Meanwhile, at MWC26, the world's largest mobile communications industry exhibition in Barcelona, Spain, Samsung Electronics will unveil its strategy for applying industrial AI and present its vision for manufacturing innovation based on Digital Twin.
In addition, at SMBS (Samsung Mobile Business Summit) during MWC26, it plans to announce a "governance reinforcement strategy in line with expanding AI autonomy," in step with the growing use of agentic AI across various industries, including manufacturing sites.
As the scope of industrial AI application widens and autonomy—where AI understands the field and executes optimal decisions on its own—becomes key, Samsung Electronics plans to drive the spread of trustworthy industrial AI for customers and partners by embedding safeguards from the design stage alongside technological innovation.
Marking its 10th anniversary this year, SMBS is a private event for major B2B customers and partners to share Samsung Electronics' B2B strategy and latest technology direction and to seek collaboration and business opportunities in industrial settings.
