The Korea IPTV Broadcasting Association said on the 25th it will launch an "IPTV VOD gift card" that can be used on any platform of the three major domestic IPTV providers, including KT, SK Broadband, and LG Uplus.
Until now, VOD gift cards could be used only by the IPTV subscribers of the respective provider, creating limits for gifting and use. The newly launched gift card can be registered on KT's "Genie TV," SK Broadband's "B tv," and LG Uplus's "U+tv." If users enter the gift card number in the IPTV menu, it converts to a payment method on each platform, allowing access to VOD content such as movies and drama.
The three IPTV providers plan to gradually expand the distribution channels for the gift card. Corporate customers can purchase the gift cards for corporate giveaways and employee benefits via "Giftishow Biz" on the 25th, and sales to general customers will be rolled out sequentially through online channels such as "Gmarket" and "11Street." In addition, to mark the launch of the IPTV VOD gift card, Giftishow Biz will run a 20% discount promotion for one month through Mar. 24. The gift cards come in five types, including a 5,500 won card.
Kang Yoon-muk, secretary general of the Korea IPTV Broadcasting Association, said, "We expect this to improve IPTV VOD accessibility," and added, "We will continue to strengthen cooperation among the three IPTV providers to enhance viewing convenience and service quality."
