A majority of Kakao Games employees have joined the Kakao labor union.
The Kakao chapter "Crew Union" under the Korean Chemical, Textile & Food Workers' Union (KCTFU) of the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions (KCTU) said on the 23rd that the number of members who joined the Kakao Games corporate labor union has surpassed half of all employees. This is the third majority after Kakao headquarters and Kakao Mobility.
The union cited as the backdrop for achieving a majority the recent rumors, raised continuously inside and outside the industry, of a sale of Kakao Games and major subsidiaries and the possibility of restructuring. The union said, "This majority is interpreted as a strong warning message from crew members against management's opaque decision-making," adding, "Employment anxiety stemming from the sale rumors became the catalyst for an increase in membership."
The union plans to proceed with procedures to confirm its status as the representative of workers within Kakao Games.
Seo Seung-uk, head of the Kakao chapter, said, "Management should stop behind-closed-doors sale talks even now and recognize the labor union as a true management partner to engage in transparent communication."
