Krafton has released the first trailer for a triple-A action game in development, based on the world of writer Lee Yeong-do's fantasy novel "The Bird That Drinks Tears."
On the 13th, Krafton unveiled the new title "Project Windless" at Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE)'s online showcase "State of Play." This is the first time video has been released since the development was first revealed in 2021.
Project Windless is being led by Krafton's Canadian subsidiary, Krafton Montreal Studio. The development team in Pangyo is also collaborating.
The roughly three-minute trailer released that day features cinematic footage along with in-game combat scenes. A character from the avian giant race "Rekon," which appears in the original, takes the lead as the protagonist, engaging in combat with dual swords, spears, and more.
The work is set about 1,500 years before the original timeline and emphasizes the scale of the world through vast continental landscapes and large-scale battle scenes. Elements from the original, such as human armies facing the reptilian humanoids "Naga," the massive airborne creatures "Skyfish," and a goblin race that breathes fire, are also included in the footage.
The protagonist is depicted as the Rekon race's mythic figure, the "Hero King," and is shown dominating the battlefield with two swords and special techniques. The release schedule was not disclosed. The company only said that development is currently underway.
Krafton also released a separate video documenting the development process. Montreal Studio said it is leveraging North American triple-A development experience to raise technical polish while focusing on reflecting the original's narrative and cultural settings in the game.
The game incorporates technology that realizes a large-scale battlefield where thousands of warriors and massive creatures fight simultaneously.
Krafton said it is focusing on faithfully inheriting the original's world while ensuring the game's overall quality.
