Meta, Facebook's parent company, has applied an artificial intelligence (AI)-based content recommendation feature to its text-based social media (SNS) platform Threads.
Meta said on the 11th (local time) that it introduced Dear Algo, an algorithmic recommendation feature that lets users directly personalize the posts that appear in their Threads feed. If a user writes a public post starting with Dear Algo and states topics of interest, AI will adjust the content shown in the user's feed accordingly for three days.
For example, if you want to see more content about popular podcasts, you can type, "Dear Algo, show me more content on popular podcasts."
Originally, among Threads users, there was a rumor that posting a note starting with "Dear algorithm" would make more related posts appear in the feed, and Meta actively reflected this and released it as an actual feature. Dear Algo will roll out first in the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia and New Zealand, and will expand to more countries later.
The introduction of this new feature aligns with Meta's strategy to expand AI. Meta is integrating AI features across its main platforms, including Facebook, Instagram and Threads. On the 10th, it also introduced AI features on Facebook that can animate profile photos or edit images. Meta said this year's AI-related capital expenditures (CAPEX) will reach up to $135 billion (198 trillion won), about 87% higher than last year.
Threads was launched in 2023 as Meta's rival to X (formerly Twitter), led by CEO Elon Musk. It has been growing rapidly, recently surpassing X in daily active users (DAU) on mobile.
