In the additional call for the independent artificial intelligence (AI) foundation model (Dokpamo), consortia led by Motif Technologies and Trillion Labs each tried again.
The Ministry of Science and ICT said it received a total of two proposals in the additional call that closed at 4 p.m. on the 12th. After Naver and Kakao declared they would not participate, the startup-centered competitive landscape forecast in the industry has effectively taken shape.
Dokpamo is a national strategic project aimed at reducing reliance on overseas big tech and securing core capabilities in ultra-large AI based on domestic technology and data, with the goal of building a sovereign AI foundation that can be used across industry and the public sector. The government plans to conduct a document suitability review and an external expert evaluation and select one elite team within the month.
This re-bid is a follow-up procedure after the Naver consortium was additionally eliminated for failing to meet the independence criteria. The selected team will formalize a development roadmap that includes the potential for commercial and public-sector deployment.
