Samsung Electronics said on the 9th that, on the 8th (local time), it held an appointment ceremony for the ambassadors of its global youth corporate social responsibility (CSR) program "Samsung Solve for Tomorrow" at Samsung House in Milan, Italy, together with the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
About 80 people attended the event, including IOC Chairperson Kirsty Coventry; IOC Executive Board member Kim Jae-yeol (president of Samsung Global Research); Auvita Rapilla, chairperson of the IOC Olympism 365 Commission; Lee Won-jin, head of global marketing at Samsung Electronics; and Seong Il-gyeong, head of Europe at Samsung Electronics, as well as officials from Samsung Electronics, the IOC, and Samsung Solve for Tomorrow.
Launched in 2010, "Samsung Solve for Tomorrow" is an idea competition where young people around the world use their STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) capabilities to solve challenges in their communities. Samsung Electronics and the IOC first operated ambassadors for "Samsung Solve for Tomorrow" at the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics.
For the 2026 Milan–Cortina d'Ampezzo Winter Olympics, 10 teams were selected as "Samsung Solve for Tomorrow" ambassadors from among the winning teams in each region around the world for their excellence in innovation, scalability and social impact.
Five teams in the sports technology institutional sector, including a sports headband that protects hearing aids from moisture, shock and damage during exercise, and five teams in the health and environment institutional sector, including an AI-based smart band that uses sensors to monitor wound conditions in real time and detect infections, were selected.
The selected ambassadors will receive various support over the next two years to productize their solutions.
Samsung Electronics and the IOC will also run an exhibition from the 9th to the 10th (local time) at Smart City Lab, a startup incubation center in Milan, Italy, to showcase the ambassadors' solutions for "Samsung Solve for Tomorrow."
IOC Chairperson Kirsty Coventry said, "Young people are using technology to build a more inclusive, sustainable, healthy and active future," and added, "Above all, we are pleased to see them using sports, technology and problem-solving skills to change lives."
Lee Won-jin, head of global marketing at Samsung Electronics, said, "Samsung Electronics has contributed to society through technological innovation and sports and has worked to create opportunities for young people around the world to grow," and added, "Together with the IOC, we will actively support the Samsung Solve for Tomorrow ambassadors selected this time so they can grow into future leaders driving positive social change through technology and sports."
