Naver and Kakao have moved to tighten security management and issued a notice not to use the agent engine "OpenClaw." OpenClaw is an open-source agent technology in which artificial intelligence (AI) checks information on a computer and operates the mouse and keyboard to effectively perform human tasks.
According to the IT industry on the 8th, Naver and Kakao recently issued a notice to employees, including developers, not to use OpenClaw.
A Kakao official said, "To protect the company's information asset, we issued a notice restricting the use of the open-source AI agent OpenClaw (ClaudeBot, MaltBot) on the in-house network and work devices." Earlier, Kakao and many public institutions and corporations also discouraged the use of China's AI model DeepSeek, citing concerns about personal data leaks and cybersecurity.
When OpenAI's ChatGPT emerged in 2023, major corporations banned the use of Generative AI on internal networks for security reasons. Because of this, Samsung Electronics and SK hynix are said not to have issued separate notices about OpenClaw.
China is taking a more proactive stance in banning the use of OpenClaw. According to major foreign media, on the 5th (local time), the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) in China said that if OpenClaw is configured improperly, cyberattacks and data leaks could occur, and it strengthened identity verification and access control systems.
