Samsung Electronics obtained the most patents in the United States last year among corporations worldwide. Samsung Electronics kept its No. 1 spot as the corporation that secured the most U.S. patents for the fourth consecutive year.
According to a report recently published on Jan. 8 by U.S. patent information firm IFI Claims, 323,272 patents were registered in the United States in 2025.
Samsung Electronics obtained 7,054 of them. That accounts for more than 2% of all registered patents. The number of patents Samsung Electronics obtained increased 11% from 2024 (6,377).
Samsung Display obtained 2,859 U.S. patents last year, ranking fifth. It climbed two spots from 2024.
Within LG Group, LG Electronics obtained 2,284 U.S. patents last year, placing 10th. LG Energy Solution secured 981 U.S. patents last year, ranking 27th. It recorded the biggest jump among the surveyed corporations. It obtained 50% more patents than in 2024. LG Display obtained 932 U.S. patents last year, ranking 30th. SK hynix also obtained 844 U.S. patents last year, rising to 37th.
Automakers also ranked high. Hyundai Motor obtained 1,631 U.S. patents last year, rising to 16th, up three spots from 2024. Kia recorded 1,606, climbing five spots to 17th.
About 60% of all patents were accounted for by Asian corporations. By country, Korean corporations registered 26,147 patents, up more than 8% from the previous year. The number of U.S. patent applications last year fell 9% from the previous year, the lowest since 2019.
