SK Telecom said on the 6th that it has been appointed as a board member of the FIDO (Fast Identity Online) Alliance, which sets global authentication and security standards, and will begin activities starting with the general meeting held in Paris, France, on the 4th local time.
The FIDO Alliance is an organization that jointly researches and develops passwordless access technology using biometric authentication such as fingerprints and facial recognition, and global big tech corporations including Amazon, Apple, Google, Meta, and Microsoft are members.
The FIDO Alliance's technology has the advantage of reducing risks such as phishing and account hijacking by not storing passwords on servers. SK Telecom plans to participate in standard discussions with major global corporations through its board activities and to gradually apply biometric authentication technology to its internal systems in stages.
Andrew Shikiar, executive director and CEO of the FIDO Alliance, said, "We welcome SK Telecom joining the FIDO Alliance board," and added, "We expect SK Telecom's expertise to further advance global standards in the authentication and security domain."
Lee Jong-hyun, head of SKT Integrated Security Center (CISO), said, "With our participation on the FIDO Alliance board as a starting point, we will lead global standards and build a safer and more reliable authentication security environment."
