Samsung Electronics Chair Lee Jae-yong said at a meeting of the heads of the top 10 conglomerates presided over by President Lee Jae-myung on the 4th that "Samsung Electronics' operating performance has risen significantly, giving us more room to hire a bit more this year."
Senior presidential secretary for public relations and communication Lee Kyu-yeon said at a briefing on the meeting that Lee Jae-yong said this in relation to achieving KOSPI 5000.
At the meeting, the president urged corporations to play an active role in creating youth jobs and expanding investment in regional areas. The business community responded that the top 10 conglomerates will invest 270 trillion won in regional areas over five years, and that more than 60% of hires will be new employees rather than experienced workers.
Meanwhile, according to the Korea Exchange (KRX) on the day, Samsung Electronics rose 1.13% from the previous session intraday to 169,400 won, hitting an all-time high. Samsung Electronics' market capitalization also surpassed 1,000 trillion won. The share price of Samsung Electronics has been hitting record highs day after day, closing above 100,000 won at 102,000 won on Oct. 27 last year and topping 160,000 won the previous day.
