Samsung Electronics said on the 1st that it received Environmental Claim Validation (ECV) certification from global certification body UL Solutions by applying a recycled waste glass composite material to its all-in-one washer-dryer Bespoke AI Combo.
Samsung Electronics, in collaboration with Samsung Display, crushed waste glass generated during the product manufacturing process, removed foreign substances, and melted it to produce recycled glass fiber.
The material, which has the same quality as conventional glass fiber, was applied to the outer tub that surrounds the inner drum of the washer.
Samsung Electronics obtained certification from UL Solutions that the outer tub contains 10% recycled material, and recently applied it to domestically produced Bespoke AI Combo models.
Samsung Electronics plans to expand the application of recycled glass fiber to drum washing machines produced in North America and Vietnam within the year.
Moon Jong-seung, executive vice president of Samsung Electronics' Digital Appliances Division, said, "Samsung Electronics has been steadily expanding the use of recycled materials in refrigerators, washing machines, and ovens," and added, "We will continue to expand partnerships with external corporations to develop a variety of recycled materials."
