Kakao said on the 28th that it introduced a new feature to KakaoTalk Open Chat that allows multiple comments to be attached to a single original message. The key is that it complements the existing "reply" feature to keep conversation context clearer.
The feature expands the comment function, first applied to Open Chat communities in September last year, to general Open Chat. Users can carry on comments around a specific message and develop conversations by topic, enabling uninterrupted communication even in Open Chat rooms where many users participate at the same time.
Kakao said, "We introduced the feature to provide a conversation experience that fits the topic and context in Open Chat rooms where countless conversations take place." The company said it focused on strengthening a topic-centered communication experience.
As the comment function expands, its usability has also grown. New comments can attach not only text but also photos, videos, files, maps, voice messages, contacts, and captured images. Compared with the existing reply function, which supported only text and emojis, the means of expression have increased significantly.
Comments can also be displayed in the main chat room like existing replies through the "send together to chatroom" setting. If you turn off the feature, you can continue the conversation only in the comment-only window, so it does not disrupt the flow of the main chat room.
However, the reply function in general one-on-one chats or group chats remains unchanged.
