HANMI Semiconductor said on the 27th (local time) that it attended the groundbreaking ceremony for Micron Technology's Advanced wafer fabrication facility in Singapore.
Senior executives of HANMI Semiconductor were invited to the ceremony, which was joined by Micron Chair Sanjay Mehrotra, Singapore Deputy Prime Minister Gan Kim Yong, Singapore government officials, and key figures from the semiconductor industry.
Micron's new Advanced wafer fabrication facility, which broke ground this time, will be built within the existing NAND manufacturing complex in the Woodlands area of Singapore. Nearby is a high-bandwidth memory (HBM) packaging plant that broke ground in Jan. 2025.
The new plant aims to begin operations in the second half of 2028. Micron plans to position the facility as a core site of the NAND Center of Excellence. Micron plans to invest about $24 billion (about 35 trillion won) in the new Advanced wafer fabrication facility over the next 10 years, ultimately securing 700,000 square feet of cleanroom space.
Micron's HBM Advanced packaging plant in Singapore, which broke ground in Jan. 2025, will begin mass production at the end of this year and is expected to contribute in earnest to Micron's HBM supply starting next year. Micron is building a production base in Singapore that encompasses HBM and NAND.
A HANMI Semiconductor official said, "Attendance at this groundbreaking reflects a strong cooperative relationship with Micron," and noted, "In step with Micron's production expansion in Singapore, we established our Singapore subsidiary in October last year and have deployed skilled engineers locally to provide specialized technical support." HANMI Semiconductor received the "Top Supplier" award from Micron in October last year, given to its best partners.
According to market research firm TechInsights, HANMI Semiconductor holds the No. 1 position with a 71% share in the global market for TC bonder equipment for HBM. The TC bonder is core equipment in the HBM stacking process, and demand increases as HBM production capacity expands.
A HANMI Semiconductor representative said, "We are pleased to take part in Micron's global production expansion strategy," adding, "We will continue to contribute to enhancing our customers' competitiveness through technological cooperation and equipment supply."
