LG Uplus said on the 25th that it has reviewed its obligations as an AI development and use operator in line with the Artificial Intelligence (AI) Basic Act that took effect on the 22nd and will activate a companywide management system.
The move aims to strengthen user protection and reliability across AI services and to establish a stable compliance system from the early stage of the law's implementation.
LG Uplus said that after reviewing all AI services it develops and operates, it examined the transparency obligations required by law for Generative AI services subject to the AI Basic Act, including the customer center and the integrated membership app "U+one." The company said it set user protection as a core principle and took steps to ensure users can clearly recognize that the services are operated based on AI.
Specifically, it reflected in the terms of service and other materials that services subject to the AI Basic Act are provided based on AI to enable prior notice, and it fulfilled transparency obligations by clearly indicating that the outputs are generated by AI. It also strengthened training so all employees across the company can understand and comply with the law.
In addition, LG Uplus plans to operate a risk management framework with participation from relevant departments including the CTO, the information security center, and the legal office, to systematically manage compliance throughout the entire process of planning, developing, and operating AI services.
Earlier, in June last year, LG Uplus obtained certification for the international standard ISO/IEC 42001 (AI management system), officially recognizing global-level ethics and reliability across AI technology development and service operations.
An LG Uplus official said, "With the enforcement of the Artificial Intelligence Basic Act, this is a time that requires responsible use based on customer trust along with technological innovation."
