Nexon's idle role-playing game (RPG) MapleStory Idle RPG has been mired in controversy over an in-game stat not being applied. Nexon promised to fix the issue with a game update on Jan. 29.
According to the game industry on the 23rd, Nexon's mobile game MapleStory Idle RPG faced user complaints after its in-game "attack speed" stat was found not to apply to the extent shown. In the game, attack speed was displayed as if it increased by specific percentage (%) units, but in reality the actual speed did not increase unless a certain threshold was reached. Users pointed out that this was not clearly disclosed in the game.
As the controversy grew, Nexon posted a notice on its website outlining compensation.
A Nexon official said, "Due to the skill action frame settings applied to optimize the gameplay environment, there were instances where the attack speed-related stat behaved differently than intended in certain sections," and added, "This will be normalized through the Jan. 29 update." The company also said it would provide paid currency as compensation.
Since its launch in November last year, MapleStory Idle RPG has continued its success, ranking No. 1 in sales for nine consecutive weeks. The cumulative number of users recently surpassed 3 million. According to market research firm Sensor Tower, revenue for about 45 days after launch is estimated at more than $100 million (about 146.9 billion won).
