Naver and the Bank of Korea said on the 21st that they completed the build of BOKI (Bank Of Korea Intelligence), a dedicated generative artificial intelligence (AI) service specialized for finance and the economy, and began full-scale operations at the Bank of Korea Conference Hall during the Bank of Korea–Naver joint AX (AI transformation) conference. Attendees included Lee Hae-jin, Naver board chair, Choi Soo-yeon, Naver CEO, and Kim Yu-won, Naver Cloud CEO, as well as Rhee Chang-yong, Bank of Korea governor, and Ryu Je-myeong, 2nd vice minister of the Ministry of Science and ICT.

The company said the service is a dedicated AI platform implemented through public–private cooperation to fit the Central Bank environment, where security and trust are paramount, and is significant as the first case among central banks worldwide to build its own AI platform and apply it at the operational stage.

In opening remarks, Lee Hae-jin said, "The Bank of Korea's vast data, which forms the backbone of the national economy, is itself a major strategic asset of the Republic of Korea. Under a shared understanding that this project must consider not only the speed of technology but also trust and stability, we pushed forward by concentrating all of Naver's capabilities," and added, "We expect this service to go beyond becoming a practical tool that transforms the Bank of Korea's work culture, to raise the level of Korea's financial and economic analysis and serve as a foundation for strengthening competitiveness across the nation."

The service is built in an on-premise environment on the Bank of Korea's internal network, which is completely separated from external networks, fundamentally blocking the risk of data leakage. In particular, by designing AI training and inference to be completed within the closed network, the company said it fully meets the guidelines of core national institutions that require the highest level of security while establishing an optimal foundation to safely use Generative AI in operations.

Naver Cloud provided the AI platform foundation and technical support, including cloud infrastructure and a large language model (LLM), for this project, and the Bank of Korea will directly develop and operate AI applications specialized for financial and economic work based on it. Through this, Bank of Korea employees will be able to receive broad support ranging from document search and summaries, Q&A, and translation to analysis of economic issues and data-driven decision-making. Going forward, the two companies plan to improve completeness as a finance- and economy-specialized model through continuous learning and tuning based on Bank of Korea data.

Building on this experience, Naver Cloud has accumulated technical and operational know-how to anchor AI that meets the high security requirements in the public and financial sectors through to actual operations, and plans to accelerate the spread of public AX centered on central government ministries and major financial institutions where security and data management are crucial.

Kim Yu-won, Naver Cloud CEO, said, "This project is a global leading case of applying AI technology to real-world tasks within the highest level of security environment required by a Central Bank," adding, "Naver Cloud will continue to provide reliable AI infrastructure and services across various industries, including the public and financial sectors, and contribute to strengthening Korea's AI competitiveness."
