Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Jae-yong's stock wealth topped 30 trillion won for the first time.
According to Korea CXO Institute on the 21st, the combined valuation of seven stock holdings owned by Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Jae-yong—including Samsung Electronics, Samsung C&T, Samsung Life Insurance, Samsung SDS, Samsung E&A, Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance, and Samsung Electronics preferred shares—stood at 30.2523 trillion won as of that day. Compared with Lee's stock valuation at the start of last year (Jan. 2) of 11.9099 trillion won, it has more than doubled, rising by over 2.5 times.
With this year's sharp stock rally continuing, the valuation of Lee's holdings increased by about 1.59671 trillion won (111.8%). While it took roughly 4 years and 5 months for Lee's stock wealth to grow from the 15 trillion won range to the 20 trillion won range, it took only 104 days to move from surpassing 20 trillion won to entering the 30 trillion won range.
Samsung Electronics appears to have played the biggest role in pushing Lee's stock wealth past 30 trillion won. The company's share price (closing) rose from 57,800 won on June 4 last year to 149,500 won as of the 21st of this month. Over the same period, Lee's Samsung Electronics stake valuation increased from 560.305 billion won to 1.45634 trillion won.
The rise in Samsung C&T shares also appears to have contributed. Samsung C&T's share price climbed from 157,800 won on June 4 last year to 299,000 won on the 21st of this month. The value of Lee's Samsung C&T holdings also rose from 534.62 billion won to 1.06709 trillion won.
On Feb. 2, Hong Ra-hee, honorary director of Leeum Museum of Art, donated 1,808,577 shares of Samsung C&T to Lee, moving up the timing of the 30 trillion won milestone. As of the 21st of this month, the Samsung C&T shares donated by Hong are worth more than 500 billion won.
