Lezhin Entertainment is entering the short drama market. Lezhin Entertainment said on the 19th that it will launch the short drama platform "Lezhin Snack" on Feb. 4.
Short dramas are vertical-format content optimized for mobile viewing. Lezhin Snack plans to provide a highly immersive viewing experience even in brief moments of daily life through fast-paced, stylish works tailored to this format.
Lezhin Snack will feature a variety of content, from screen adaptations of webtoon intellectual property (IP) proven on Lezhin Comics and Bomtoon to original works produced in-house. A company official said, "KidariStudio, which has built experience in film investment and distribution and content production, is directly participating in production to deliver high-quality short dramas that leverage both a deep understanding of webtoon originals and know-how in adaptation to screen."
The new platform is designed with a structure specialized for short dramas, from planning to production and release. Based on webtoon stories, it maximizes immersion through more dynamic adaptation and directing. The genres are diverse, including romance, comedy, mystery, action, school, BL (love between men), and GL (love between women).
Production companies and directors and writers who have proven their skills through numerous works are joining the short drama productions. A short drama written and directed by Director Lee Byeong-heon, known for the film "Extreme Job" and the drama "Be Melodramatic," will also be released.
Lezhin Snack will operate on a monthly subscription basis.
Heo Heung-beom, CEO of Lezhin Snack, said, "KidariStudio, which has diversified content through operating a webtoon platform and investing in and producing video content, will present a differentiated strategy in the short drama market," adding, "We will build a one-source multiuse (OSMU) content pipeline based on our IP and strengthen long-term competitiveness."
