LG Electronics said on the 14th that it won the 2026 SDV (software-defined vehicle) Innovator Awards organized by global automotive media MotorTrend for the second straight year.
MotorTrend, founded in 1949, is the largest automotive media group in the United States and exerts influence in the global auto industry by organizing various awards, including the prestigious Car of the Year in the auto sector.
The MotorTrend SDV Innovator Awards is a prestigious honor that selects figures who have led innovation in the SDV field, and this year marks its fourth edition.
Kim Kyung-rak, managing director and display development leader of the VS Business Unit at LG Electronics, won in the "Pioneer" category, recognized for advancing in-vehicle displays beyond simple readouts into intelligent interfaces that are core to software-defined vehicles.
On the leader category, which highlights those steering SDV-related auto industry trends, VS Business Unit head Eun Seok-hyun (president) won last year.
At the core of this year's award is "shy-tech," realized through the "bendable moving display." When not in use, the lower part of the screen folds back to hide it; when a display is needed, it unfolds and serves as a large screen. This display is slated to be installed in premium mass-production vehicles going forward.
President Eun Seok-hyun said, "By analyzing the surrounding environment and passenger conditions in real time to provide a safer and more convenient mobility experience, we will lead the era of AIDV beyond SDV."
