Korea Post said on the 13th that it will build a metropolitan logistics center for faster delivery, expand next-day delivery, and pioneer a logistics-warehouse agency business for small and midsize shippers.
Korea Post announced these plans for this year at a work briefing for agencies in the science, culture and postal sectors under the Ministry of Science and ICT, held at the Jungang Post Office in Jung-gu, Seoul, that day.
Korea Post also said it will identify commissioned government projects such as vacant-home surveys and resident registration fact-finding to improve its business conditions. The vacant-home survey, for which pilot programs are being prepared in places including Gimcheon, North Gyeongsang, has postal carriers check whether homes are vacant and share the information with the Korea Real Estate Board (REB).
Korea Post will partner with the convenience store industry this year to increase spaces for accepting mail.
Korea Post is now able to conduct banking agency services starting this year so residents in areas without bank branches can access banking services face to face at post offices and other locations. Accordingly, Korea Post will develop policy-type and low-income financial products this year and pursue Fintech partnerships and diversification of protection-type insurance.
Separately, the Postal Logistics Agency(POLA) said it will identify a new business to handle customs clearance for online sales of overseas reverse-direct-purchase products from small companies, and will push AI transition initiatives such as Autonomous Driving cargo truck demonstrations and AI-based risk-detection forklift operations.
