NC AI said on the 8th that it unveiled VAETKI ("Baeki"), an industry-specialized foundation model to support the artificial intelligence (AI) transition of Korea's key industries.
Baeki was developed through the Ministry of Science and ICT's independent artificial intelligence foundation model project and was designed for use on industrial sites such as manufacturing, defense, and distribution. NC AI plans to use Baeki to build a sovereign AI foundation suited to the domestic industrial environment.
According to NC AI's internal performance evaluation, the Baeki 100B model recorded performance on par with or exceeding open-source-based global large models in areas such as Korean knowledge comprehension, specialized reasoning, and instruction following. Baeki was trained on about 10 trillion tokens of data, with about 20% of the tokenizer vocabulary allocated to Korean, and was designed to handle even archaic language.
Baeki was developed with a focus on efficiency and scalability for deployment on industrial sites. By applying a mixture-of-experts (MoE) architecture and next-generation attention technology, it cut memory usage by about 83% compared with conventional methods, thereby reducing operating expense burdens in corporations' environments. NC AI also unveiled a lineup of models in various sizes, including 100B, 20B, and 7B.
Based on Baeki, NC AI plans to establish a "domain ops" framework to move beyond the limits of general-purpose models and operate industry-specific AI. Through this, it plans to expand use by industry, including automation on manufacturing sites, decision-making support in defense, and production efficiency in the content industry.
Building on these technical results, Baeki also made the list of "notable AI models" selected by Epoch AI, a U.S. nonprofit research organization. Epoch AI evaluates AI models worldwide based on training data scale, computational efficiency, and technological innovativeness.
Lee Yeon-su, CEO of NC AI, said, "Baeki is a foundation model that supports Korea's key industries in using AI to enhance global competitiveness," adding, "We will supply AI that can be practically used on industrial sites and build a sovereign AI ecosystem."
