Kakao Entertainment said on the 7th that it has exclusively released the new webtoon "Uje" by writer Jeong Ji-hoon, known for the webtoon "The Boxer," on KakaoPage and Kakao Webtoon.
"Uje" is the first new work Jeong Ji-hoon has presented in three years since "The Boxer," and it began serialization on the 30th of last month. In November last year, Jeong won the "Yellow Kid Book of the Year" at Lucca Comics & Games in Italy for the print edition of the webtoon "Horizon," earning recognition for the work's artistry.
This work unfolds around questions about human existence, which inevitably moves toward death, and its meaning. The title "Uje" combines yu (有, to have) and je (臍, navel), symbolizing humans as beings separated from the mother with whom they were once one body. Through intense suspense and thrills, and the writer's characteristically dense direction, it unravels a philosophical message.
The story centers on a girl who seeks to sever the world completely and another girl who affirms human existence and the meaning of life. It is assessed as a work that condenses Jeong Ji-hoon's narrative composition and directing prowess, honed across various genres such as "What I want to say to you," "Horizon," "Mosquito War," and "The Boxer."
Jeong Ji-hoon said, "I am glad to meet readers again with a new story after 'The Boxer,'" adding, "The webtoon 'Uje' is a story born of long and intense reflection on the meaning of existence and humanity, and I hope it becomes a journey to find answers together with readers."
The webtoon "Uje" is serialized every Tuesday for ages 19 and older on KakaoPage and Kakao Webtoon.
