HANMI Semiconductor said on the 5th that it launched the EMI Shield 2.0 X series, an essential process equipment line, to meet growing demand in the aerospace and low Earth orbit (LEO) satellite communications markets.
The newly launched EMI Shield 2.0 X series consists of five models: ▲ EMI Shield Vision Attach (ATTACH) 2.0 X ▲ EMI Shield Vision Detach (DETACH) 2.0 X ▲ EMI Shield Micro SAW & Vision Placement (micro SAW & VISION PLACEMENT) 2.0 X ▲ EMI Shield Tape Mounter (TAPE MOUNTER) 2.0 X ▲ EMI Shield Tape Laser Cutting (TAPE LASER CUTTING) 2.0 X.
HANMI Semiconductor has maintained the No. 1 market share in this field since first unveiling its EMI shield equipment in 2016, and has supplied equipment to a global aerospace company for three consecutive years since 2023. The new product is a next-generation model introduced for the first time in about three years since Dec. 2022.
The EMI Shield 2.0 X series significantly enhances precision and user convenience. The EMI Shield Attach 2.0 X, an EMI shielding film attachment system, applies a proprietary Ball Grid Special Algorithm to boost precision and uses multiple patented technologies to strengthen process reliability. The new products also feature automatic device switching to minimize operator intervention and improve operational convenience.
EMI shield equipment is essential in the aerospace, low Earth orbit satellite communications, and defense drone markets. EMI shielding is a technology that prevents malfunctions in other semiconductors or components caused by specific electromagnetic waves emitted from a semiconductor. LEO satellites communicate in high-frequency bands, and rockets pack numerous semiconductors into tight spaces, making them particularly vulnerable to electromagnetic interference. If communications or control systems malfunction due to electromagnetic waves, it can pose a critical risk to the safety of the entire satellite or rocket. Recently, as more passengers use Wi-Fi on aircraft, demand for EMI shielding has been growing even faster.
According to market research firm MarketsandMarkets, the low Earth orbit satellite communications (LEO) market is expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 11.9%, from $11.81 billion (17 trillion won) in 2025 to $20.69 billion (29 trillion won) in 2030. LEO satellite launches are also expected to rise from 3,722 in 2025 to 5,175 in 2030.
EMI shield equipment is essential not only for aerospace, LEO satellites, and defense drones, but also for smartphones, wearables, and Internet of Things (IoT) devices. As electronic devices become more multifunctional and compact, demand for EMI shielding processes is expected to increase further.
A HANMI Semiconductor official said, "We launched the EMI Shield 2.0 X series to respond to the growth of the aerospace market and the trend toward higher-performance electronic devices," adding, "We will further strengthen our position in the global market."
