Chairperson Kim Jong-cheol of the broadcasting, media and communications committee said on the 29th during the first on-site visit that the committee would work to prevent harm to online users. Chairperson Kim visited the Online Harm 365 Center in Seoul and the Seoul branch of Korea Internet & Security Agency (KISA) to review operations and hear from officials.
The Online Harm 365 Center has provided more than 10,000 consultations on various online harms, including cyber financial crimes and illegal spam, over the past four years. Chairperson Kim listened to support cases and discussed support measures with counselors through a roundtable.
Next, at KISA, officials reviewed the status of illegal spam and examined artificial intelligence-based spam-blocking services provided by mobile carriers and Samsung Electronics. Chairperson Kim said, "The spam issue is a problem that must be resolved," urging an active government response. Kim added, "To protect the public in the digital environment, we will work with related agencies and strengthen the legal framework to expand prevention and relief support."
