Samsung Electronics will restore dramas from the 2000s in high definition and make them available.
Samsung Electronics said on the 26th that it will run an "all-in-one AI integrated channel" on Samsung TV Plus. The channel will offer content that restores popular 2000s dramas, originally shot in low resolution, to 4K (UHD·3840×2160) using artificial intelligence (AI)-based upscaling technology.
4K video refers to image quality with about 8.3 million pixels. It is four times sharper than FHD (1920×1080). Samsung Electronics improved past drama footage into high-quality images tailored to today's viewing environment by removing noise, enhancing color representation, and reinforcing detail.
Samsung Electronics will first offer ▲ Autumn in My Heart ▲ Successful Story of a Cheerful Girl ▲ Damo in 4K. Dramas such as ▲ Winter Sonata ▲ Rooftop Cat ▲ Tomato will also be added sequentially.
The "all-in-one AI integrated channel" also provides ▲ audio remastering ▲ plot introduction (AI synopsis) ▲ summary of "previous episode" (AI recap) using Generative AI technology. Audio remastering strengthens intelligibility by separating character voices from background sounds with AI and restores low frequencies in voices to create a natural tone. The plot introduction feature has AI summarize the key plot points of each episode. It also applies a feature where AI automatically edits and summarizes major scenes from previous episodes.
Choi Jun-heon, head of the TV Plus Group in the Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics, said, "The launch of this AI integrated channel is a new viewing paradigm that reconstructs video, audio, and the overall viewing experience with AI," adding, "As the global leader in AI TVs, Samsung Electronics will continue to innovate its technology."
Samsung TV Plus is an ad-supported free streaming (FAST) service available on a variety of devices, including Samsung TVs and mobile devices, without separate registration or subscription. It offers about 3,500 channels and more than 66,000 titles of video-on-demand (VOD) for free in 30 countries worldwide.
