After Coupang released its own statement regarding the recent personal information leak, the government expressed regret, calling it a one-sided announcement about a matter under investigation.
The Ministry of Science and ICT said on the 25th, "Coupang's distributed materials related to the personal information leak investigation are matters that require verification by the public-private joint investigation team," adding, "We lodged a strong protest against the one-sided announcement about matters under investigation."
Around 4 p.m. that day, Coupang issued an additional notice on its website's announcements section, saying, "We have confirmed that all devices used for the customer information leak have been retrieved," and explained that "according to the investigation so far, the leaker stored only limited customer information from 3,000 accounts and later deleted all of it."
In response, the Ministry of Science and ICT pointed out that, as the public-private joint investigation team is closely examining the type and scale of the information leak, the circumstances of the leak, and the adequacy of measures to prevent recurrence, it is inappropriate for corporations to present their own judgments as established facts. It added, "The matters asserted by Coupang have not been verified by the investigation team," and said the findings will be officially announced after a verification process.
