Kakao Entertainment said on the 23rd that it will release the webtoon "Les Fourmis," based on French writer Bernard Werber's global bestselling novel, on KakaoPage and Kakao Webtoon on the 24th.
The webtoon "Les Fourmis" is an adaptation of Werber's novel of the same name and marks the first webtoonization of the globally loved original. Selected for the 2025 global webtoon IP production support project hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Creative Content Agency (KOCCA), a total of 10 episodes will be unveiled first on the release date, and about 250 episodes are planned to be serialized overall.
The original novel "Les Fourmis," introduced in Korea in 1993, caused a major stir with its original setup and message that interweaves the worlds of humans and ants, and it has established itself as a steady seller that is still widely read today.
The webtoon "Les Fourmis" was completed after about two years of production. The production was handled by webtoon studio Kenaz, and artist Kim Yonghoe, who drew Kakao Webtoon's "Why Did You Come to Goblin Hill?," was in charge of the art. Building on directing experience accumulated in previous works, Kim restructured the long novel to fit the webtoon format.
The new webtoon faithfully reflects the original narrative while featuring adaptations tailored to the webtoon format. While maintaining the structure in which Jonathan Wells inherits a house under his uncle's will to set the story in motion, it concentrates mystery and worldbuilding in the first half to increase reader immersion. By interweaving the stories of human and ant communities and emphasizing each character's narrative and individuality, it captures a pacing unique to webtoons.
To mark the release of the webtoon "Les Fourmis," KakaoPage plans to hold user events from the 24th to Aug. 7, including bundle discounts on episode lending passes and a cash lucky draw.
