LG Electronics said on the 22nd it will start supplying kiosks to local food and beverage stores in Japan in partnership with a Japanese corporations.
LG Electronics' Japan subsidiary formed a partnership with Japanese Internet of Things (IoT)-based store solutions corporations Uson and, starting this month, is supplying digital kiosks to local food and beverage stores such as restaurants and cafes. Uson is the No. 1 corporations by market share in Japan's point-of-sale (POS) systems for food and beverage stores. Since Oct., it has been conducting pilot operations at cafes and eateries in Tokyo as well as restaurants near the tourist site Toshogu.
Japan is a market where kiosk demand is growing rapidly. Because of a shrinking labor force caused by low birthrates and an aging population and more foreign tourists, there is a need for an environment where customers can order on their own and pay by card. Restaurants and retail stores are replacing button-type ticket machines with kiosks.
LG Electronics developed a product that combines its kiosks with Uson's ordering solution optimized for the local market. According to market research firm Circana Japan, as of the end of last year, the number of food and beverage stores in Japan was found to be about 1 million.
LG Electronics' 27-inch kiosk features a high-brightness, high-resolution panel with proprietary surface treatment technology that minimizes light reflection. The Uson POS solution offers an intuitive user interface and experience (UI/UX) and supports Korean, English, Chinese, and more.
LG Electronics supplies digital kiosks to restaurants, cafes, educational facilities, and public institutions in major global regions, including Asia, North America, Central and South America, Europe, and the Middle East, including Korea. Min Dong-seon, head of LG Electronics' ID Business Unit, said, "We will expand our presence in the global kiosk market, including Japan, through LG Electronics' digital kiosks differentiated by design and technology."
