Onsemi, an intelligent power and sensing technology corporations, said on the 22nd that it plans to partner with GLOBALFOUNDRIES Inc. on gallium nitride (GaN) power products and manufacturing. The intent is to develop products based on a 200 mm e-mode (a semiconductor that turns on only when a certain level of voltage is applied to the gate) GaN-on-silicon process. Based on this partnership, Onsemi plans to accelerate its roadmap for high-performance GaN devices and integrated power stages.
Dinesh Ramanathan, executive vice president for Onsemi corporations strategy institutional sector, said, "This collaboration combines Onsemi's system and product expertise with GLOBALFOUNDRIES Inc.'s advanced GaN process," adding, "We plan to deliver new 650V power devices for high-growth markets."
Onsemi said it expects the newly developed GaN products, combined with silicon drivers and controllers, to be used in areas such as AI data centers, electric vehicles, and aerospace. Onsemi plans to begin supplying samples to customers in the first half of 2026.
Mike Hogan, chief business officer at GLOBALFOUNDRIES Inc., said, "We will combine our 200 mm GaN-on-Si platform with Onsemi's deep system and product expertise," adding, "GLOBALFOUNDRIES Inc. will make Onsemi a key partner and will continue to advance GaN semiconductors that meet the evolving needs in AI, electrification, and sustainable energy."
