The Ministry of Science and ICT and the National IT Industry Promotion Agency (NIPA) said on the 22nd they will hold the first briefing session for the independent AI foundation model project at the COEX Auditorium on the 30th.
The five elite teams selected in Aug. this year — Naver Cloud, Upstage, SK Telecom, NC AI, and LG AI Research Institute — are devoting full efforts to developing an independent AI foundation model project with global impact. Their goal is to achieve performance at 95% or higher compared with global AI models within six months. Starting with this event, the five teams plan to unveil their first-phase results developed so far.
The first briefing will include presentations (PT) on results, including demos of AI models developed by the elite teams. In the lobby, AI experience booths by the elite teams will be set up so anyone interested can try out the AI models.
To ensure a smooth and safe event environment, the event will operate on a pre-registration basis, and anyone can apply via the QR code included on the event poster.
The Ministry of Science and ICT said it expects the first briefing to share the elite teams' first-phase development results of the independent AI foundation model project with the public, to commend the elite teams for their dedicated efforts in a bold challenge, and to serve as an opportunity to gather opinions on the path forward.
Meanwhile, the first-stage evaluation of the independent AI foundation model project will proceed by Jan. 15, 2026, with a comprehensive review and assessment of the elite teams' results and plans.
