Complaints are being raised from users that discoloration has occurred on the "Cosmic Orange" color of the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max, which Apple released in September.
According to the industry and overseas communities on the 19th, cases were confirmed in which the camera island turned rose gold or pink after two weeks of use with this model. Some users said they also witnessed the discoloration spreading across the entire device.
The issue has not occurred on every iPhone 17 Pro, but the industry is suggesting the possibility that the aluminum body reacted with oxygen and moisture in the air and oxidized. There is also analysis that the anodizing process may not have been properly carried out on some production lines, causing problems with the protective coating.
The iPhone 17 Pro's aluminum material is lighter than titanium, cheaper in expense, and offers excellent heat dissipation performance, but it is less durable and vulnerable to ultraviolet rays and chemicals. In particular, the Cosmic Orange color is said to be more sensitive to discoloration. Exterior scratch issues have also surfaced; Bloomberg reported that the appearance of the "Deep Blue" and "Space Black" models was damaged even by minor impacts, calling it a "scratchgate" phenomenon.
Apple has not yet announced an official position.
