Nota AI, a corporations specializing in lightweighting and optimizing artificial intelligence (AI) models, is joining hands with Edtech corporations UTOPSOFT to develop an "on-device (embedded) AI tutor."
Nota AI said on the 19th that it signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with UTOPSOFT on the 18th in Samseong-dong, Seoul, for cooperation on an "on-device AI-based education service business." The two corporations plan to commercialize a generative AI-based AI tutor service optimized for education-only devices (such as tablets) by combining UTOPSOFT's capabilities in developing AI tutors for education companies with Nota AI's AI lightweighting technology.
The "on-device AI tutor" the two corporations are envisioning is based on a method in which the AI tutor runs directly on the tablet device without going through an external server (cloud). However, they are considering a hybrid method that links to an external server only when a large amount of inference results is required.
If the cooperation takes shape, UTOPSOFT plans to first lead the planning and development of an AI tutor model specialized for English speaking and an AI tutor model specialized for a question bank based on a large language model (LLM). Nota AI will take charge of data-driven fine-tuning using its core AI model optimization platform NetsPresso, and compressing and optimizing the AI tutor models to match the hardware performance of devices such as tablets.
Chae Myung-su, CEO of Nota AI, said, "Lightweighting AI service models for education companies is an essential technology in mobile education environments with many hardware constraints," adding, "We will actively support creating meaningful cases of innovation in actual educational settings."
