It was confirmed that on the 17th, a threatening post saying "explosives were installed at the Pangyo headquarters" was once again filed through Kakao's customer center. The company reported it to police immediately after becoming aware of it. Two days earlier, a similar post had been uploaded, leading to control of the entire building and an evacuation of employees.
At about 8 p.m. that day, Kakao issued an in-house "emergency safety notice" and instructed employees still remaining at the Pangyo headquarters in Bundang-gu, Seongnam, Gyeonggi, to go home immediately. A Kakao official said, "A threatening message was filed with the customer center, and we carried out verification in cooperation with police and others," adding, "For safety, we notified employees on duty to leave work."
Police deployed about 40 personnel after the report was filed and searched the Kakao headquarters building, but no explosives were found.
On the 15th, a post alleging that explosives were installed at the Pangyo headquarters was also filed with Kakao's customer center. At that time, Kakao reported it to police and others immediately after becoming aware of it. In addition to police and fire authorities, the 15th Fighter Wing and the military Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit also sent personnel to the scene to conduct a search, but it was confirmed that there were no explosives.
At the time, the post claiming explosives had been installed was filed with the customer center twice. The writer, who introduced themself as a high school dropout, said explosives had been placed in blind spots and added, "If 10 billion won is not sent to the account, I will drop an improvised explosive by drone." The writer also mentioned a senior Kakao executive and wrote that they would kill the person with a homemade gun.
