CJ OliveNetworks said on the 16th that it will take part in the project to build Jangseong Pine Data Center, the first data center in South Jeolla Province.
Jangseong Pine Data Center will be built with a total project cost of 395.9 billion won in the Nam-myeon Advanced District 3 of Jangseong County, South Jeolla Province, with a capacity of 26MW. It is the first case pursued by the private sector since the government announced a policy to ease the concentration of data centers in the Seoul metropolitan area, and it is drawing attention as a core infrastructure that will drive digital innovation in South Jeolla Province and the growth of the artificial intelligence (AI) industry.
Based on the data center, South Jeolla Province will promote a demonstration project for developing data center heat management technology and a region-led AI grand transition project, and plans to build an AI innovation ecosystem that links AI demonstrations with research and development (R&D), education, and startups.
To ensure stable operations of Jangseong Pine Data Center, CJ OliveNetworks will participate in the MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing) project. MEP is a core element in building data centers that supports servers and IT equipment to operate stably 24/7.
GPUs and TPUs used for AI training and inference consume more than five times the power and generate more heat than CPU-based servers, so AI data centers require highly precise and complex design and operational capabilities. CJ OliveNetworks plans to secure the stability of a high-performance AI computing environment by combining its experience in building and operating the Songdo Data Center with its EPC (engineering, procurement and construction) business know-how in manufacturing and logistics.
It will also cooperate to cultivate region-based AX (AI transformation) talent and create jobs. CJ OliveNetworks plans to train specialists in AI, big data, and cloud fields in connection with base universities and public institutions in South Jeolla Province and support them so the training leads to employment in related industries.
Yu In-sang, CEO of CJ OliveNetworks, said, "It is meaningful to participate in the project to build Jangseong Pine Data Center, the first data center in South Jeolla Province," and added, "Based on our accumulated technologies and capabilities, we will successfully lead the stabilization of the data center and provide the optimal infrastructure environment for customers to freely carry out their AI businesses."
