It was confirmed that employees are evacuating after a threatening tip saying "explosives have been installed" was received at Kakao's Pangyo office.
According to the industry on the 15th, Kakao immediately reported to the police and others after receiving a threatening message through its customer center saying "explosives have been installed in the office building."
The company announced through an internal notice that morning, "Kakao's customer center received a threatening tip related to the installation of explosives at Kakao's Pangyo Agit," and said, "For safety, please switch to remote work, such as working from home."
Kakao is currently working with police and fire authorities to detect and verify the "explosives installed" tip. Related agencies, including the 15th Fighter Wing and the military Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit, also deployed personnel to the scene.
The posts claiming explosives had been installed were reportedly written twice, at 7:10 a.m. and 7:12 a.m. that morning. The writer, who introduced themself as a high school dropout, said explosives had been placed in blind spots and added, "If 10 billion won is not sent to the account, homemade explosives will be dropped by drone."
They also said that if the money was not sent, they would have someone set off explosives at Kakao's headquarters in Jeju. They also mentioned a senior Kakao executive and wrote that they would kill the person with a homemade gun.
A Kakao official said, "We are taking relevant measures with the safety of employees as the top priority."
