The SKT consortium (elite team), selected for the Ministry of Science and ICT's independent AI foundation model project elite team, cited accuracy, reliability, scalability, versatility, and efficiency as its five strengths.
SK Telecom on the 14th introduced on its newsroom a post outlining the roles and strengths of Liner, SelectStar, Krafton Inc., 42dot, and Rebellions, which are participating in the SKT elite team. First, within the elite team, Liner is working to improve the accuracy of the independent AI foundation model project. Liner CEO Kim Jin-woo said, "The elite team's strength is experience proven by real services, not theory," and noted, "A structure that can quickly consolidate key steps in the AI development process with internal capabilities is a competitive edge."
SelectStar verifies the model's reliability and stability, laying the foundation for an AI model that customers can trust and use. SelectStar CEO Kim Se-yeop said, "An evaluation framework specialized for the Korean-language environment is needed," and added, "A structure that can detect and improve errors and bias that occur in real service environments at an early stage will be the competitive edge of the SKT elite team's AI model."
Krafton Inc.'s role is global scalability based on research and development (R&D) experience in multimodal technology. Having operated game services for users worldwide, Krafton Inc. can provide a foundation to boost the scalability of the AI model with global-level AI technology and accumulated user behavior data. Lee Kang-wook, head of AI at Krafton Inc., said, "A characteristic of the SKT elite team is a structure in which the model, data, accelerators, and services are tightly consolidated," and explained, "Technological capabilities proven in real service environments support the competitive edge of the independent model."
42dot plays a role in securing versatility with on-device AI technology in vehicle environments and capabilities in optimizing lightweight models. Kim Byung-yeol, leader of the 42dot GLEO AI group, noted, "Low latency, real-time decision-making, and high stability are important values in the AI model development process."
Rebellions is tasked within the elite team with strengthening infrastructure functions so that the domestic model can operate efficiently in real service environments. Kim Hong-seok, head of software architecture at Rebellions, emphasized, "A structure in which the domestic model and domestic semiconductors are optimized together is the elite team's differentiated competitive edge."
The five independent AI elite teams that include the SKT elite team are expected to be reduced to four after receiving the first evaluation from the Ministry of Science and ICT on Jan. 15 next year.
