New installations of LG Uplus's artificial intelligence (AI) call app ixi-O appear to have declined after a call information leak.
According to Mobile Index, a data analytics solution by IGAworks, on the 11th, new installations of ixi-O totaled 546 as of the 8th. The day the call information leak involving ixi-O became known was on the 6th. That is a sharp drop from the daily average of 1,612 during the week before the leak became known. On the 7th, it fell to as low as 323.
Daily active users (DAU) of ixi-O edged down, but there was no major change. After the call information leak became known, DAU averaged 135,169 over three days. Although that is down from the daily average of 142,566 during the week before the leak became known, the change is minimal considering the weekend was included. It appears existing customers who had installed ixi-O continued using it or checked whether there were issues with their own app.
LG Uplus celebrated on the 2nd of this month that ixi-O surpassed 1 million subscribers, but a call information leak occurred due to an employee's mistake. According to LG Uplus, the leaked call information this time included, for 36 people, some of the following: the other party's phone number, the time of the call, and a summary of the call content. The information of 36 people was exposed to 101 users who newly installed or reinstalled ixi-O.
Kim Beom-jun, a professor in the Department of Accounting at the Catholic University, said, "The leak of summarized call content involves private information, so it will be difficult to restore broken trust," and noted, "In the worst case, if proper proof of security is not provided, the app could disappear."
