Naver Webtoon said it unveiled "Ne-Web World," a large-scale in-app event, on the 10th to mark the 20th anniversary of its official service launch.
The event takes "theme park" as its motif and features everything from games built on legendary webtoons and iconic lines from the past 20 years, to witty reader comments and memes, and "Cuts," a user-generated content (UGC) service for short animation released this year.
Ne-Web World consists of six zones—iconic lines speed game, time machine zone, 20th anniversary classics theater, best comments museum, Cuts zone, and collaboration zone—and can be accessed via the icon at the top right of the Naver Webtoon app home or from the "More" menu in the app.
In the iconic lines speed game, a mini game challenges users to complete a legendary line that matches a specific scene from a webtoon within a time limit.
In the time machine zone, 72 masterpieces from the 2000s, 2015s, and 2020s of Naver Webtoon are recreated with past user interface (UI) designs. Of these, 59 titles and more than 2,500 episodes are offered free through Dec. 31.
In the 20th anniversary classics theater, Josen, creator of "Sound of Your Heart," and Beombae, creator of "Gujamae," present fresh takes on masterpieces that have defined Naver Webtoon. The best comments museum exhibits "best comments" that showcase readers' wit over the past 20 years.
In the Cuts zone, popular Naver Webtoon creators Rangddo, Jena, and Park Tae-hyeon, together with Cuts creators, alter specific settings from 22 legendary webtoons and present them as short-form animations.
The offline collaboration zone teams up with CU convenience stores to sell 100,000 limited-edition "Real Choco Chip Cookies" at CU locations nationwide. The first physical cookies introduced in 20 years include cookie coupons that let users view paid Naver Webtoon content, and up to 1,000 cookies are given out at random. In addition, through a partnership with global photo platform "Photoism," limited-edition frames for "Ne-Web World" and nine popular webtoons will be available for about three weeks through Dec. 31 at Photoism booths nationwide.
