OpenAI released a report saying that using artificial intelligence (AI) can save about one hour a day on average in working time.

OpenAI said in its "state of AI for businesses" report published on the 8th (local time) that a survey of 9,000 AI users at about 100 corporations found that 75% of those surveyed said AI use improved their work speed and quality.

Users of the enterprise service "ChatGPT Enterprise" reported that AI use saved them an average of 40–60 minutes a day. In particular, people working in data science, engineering, and communications saved about 20 minutes more than that, averaging 60–80 minutes a day, and some said they cut more than 10 hours of work time per week by using AI.

Users said AI also helped them take on new tasks such as data analysis and coding, in addition to saving time. OpenAI said its internally tallied ChatGPT conversation volume increased eightfold from last year, and the number of "reasoning" tokens that corporations use for solving complex problems rose 320-fold.

Earlier, Anthropic also released a report saying that analyzing 100,000 conversations on its chatbot Claude showed AI can cut task completion time by 80%. Based on this, Anthropic analyzed that the current generation of AI models could raise the United States' annual labor productivity growth rate by 1.8 percentage points (p) over the next 10 years.

However, Bloomberg pointed out that the reports published by OpenAI and Claude "did not undergo peer review (by other researchers)." In August, an MIT research team released a report saying most corporations that invested in generative AI projects gained no profit at all, and in September, researchers at Harvard and Stanford concluded that outputs produced using AI amounted to meaningless "workslop."

Regarding the academic findings, OpenAI Chief Operating Officer Brad Lightcap countered, "There is a flood of studies claiming this and that, but it doesn't match at all what we are seeing on the ground," adding, "The pace of corporate AI adoption is accelerating, just like in the consumer market."
