Samsung Electro-Mechanics is understood to have invested billions of won in a maker of ultra-compact, high-performance electric motors. Alba Industries is a company that develops next-generation electric motors with its patented "fiber printing (printing metal or functional materials like fibers)" technology. It provides motor solutions for a range of fields, including robots, drones, and unmanned transport vehicles.
According to the industry on the 9th, Samsung Electro-Mechanics is said to have made an investment worth several million euros in the Norwegian corporations "Alba Industries." The investment is being made through Samsung Venture Investment and will be operated with capital from the New Technology Business Investment Association (SVIC No. 47) investment.
As the Humanoid Robot market grows, Alba Industries' high-performance, ultra-compact, lightweight motors using fiber printing technology are drawing industry attention. That is because building Humanoid Robots requires smaller, lighter, and more precise drive systems. According to the market research firm Intel Market Research, the global robot hand market is expected to grow from $108 million (about 158.6 billion won) last year to $696 million (about 1.024 trillion won) in 2032.
Samsung Electro-Mechanics, which is pursuing humanoids as a new business, is expected to strengthen its competitiveness in core parts for humanoids—such as ultra-compact motors used in robot hands—through technical cooperation with Alba Industries.
