Dutch semiconductor equipment corporations ASM said on the 8th that it expanded its innovation manufacturing center in Dongtan, Hwaseong.
At the completion ceremony, ASM CEO Hichem M'Saad and ASM Korea CEO Lee Young-seok were joined by Gyeonggi Province Vice Governor for Economic Affairs Go Young-in, Hwaseong Special City Second Vice Mayor Cho Seung-mun, Hwaseong City Council Chair Bae Jeong-su, Invest Korea CEO Kim Tae-hyung, Netherlands Ambassador to Korea Pieter van der Plas, and more than 100 major guests from inside and outside the organizations and employees, including officials from SK hynix and Samsung.
ASM invested 136.2 billion won to expand an innovative manufacturing facility for atomic layer deposition (ALD) and plasma-enhanced atomic layer deposition (PEALD) equipment on a 7,400-square-meter site next to its existing facility in the Dongtan Advanced Industrial Complex. With the center expansion, it plans to double equipment research compared with the existing facility and triple manufacturing functions to supply deposition equipment to domestic and global semiconductor corporations.
ASM CEO Hichem M'Saad said, "Korea is a strategic hub leading next-generation semiconductor innovation and the cornerstone of ASM's global growth strategy. The newly opened innovation manufacturing center in Hwaseong is the starting point for ASM's next chapter," adding, "ASM will expand continued investment in Korea and global markets, strengthen advanced manufacturing and technological capabilities, and help shape the future of the global semiconductor industry together."
Vice Governor for Economic Affairs Go Young-in said, "ASM is a model investment corporations that has led the commercialization of plasma deposition equipment in the global market through collaboration with domestic companies and has spearheaded Korea's semiconductor equipment technology," adding, "If existing semiconductor production complexes are linked with nearby materials, parts, and equipment corporations and fabless corporations, Gyeonggi Province will be completed as a truly global semiconductor MECARO."
