LG Electronics said it received a presidential citation at the 2025 Korea Volunteer Awards ceremony held at Kintex in Ilsan, Goyang, Gyeonggi Province, on the 5th, Volunteer Day.
The Korea Volunteer Awards ceremony is hosted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, the Korea Council of Volunteering, and the Korea Volunteer Center Association. It began in 2006 and marks its 20th edition this year. The awards recognize volunteers who have made notable contributions to promoting volunteerism.
LG Electronics said it was highly recognized for supporting local communities and underserved groups and spreading a positive impact on society through the Life's Good volunteer corps, formed by the voluntary participation of employees. The Life's Good volunteer corps began in 2010 and has been collaborating since 2021 with the Nonprofit Institutions (NPI) Korea Volunteer Culture. Over the past five years, about 5,000 LG Electronics employees have participated, extending helping hands to some 23,000 people.
This year, about 600 employees formed 77 Life's Good volunteer teams and are carrying out a variety of activities, from environmental cleanups to education support for future generations, care for neighbors in need, and talent sharing that contributes professional skills. In particular, they have recently been conducting technology-based volunteering, including developing an AI chatbot introducing independence activists and Korean War veterans, visiting social welfare facilities to inspect and repair air conditioners and refrigerators as a talent-sharing activity, and using AI technology to present seniors with photos showing their younger years.
LIAYN, an AI profile photography volunteer team, has since 2023 visited 18 senior welfare centers and military and police welfare centers nationwide to present about 240 seniors with photos from their younger days. This activity was selected as the top activity at the 1st Korea Volunteering and Sharing Best Practices Contest and will receive the minister of the interior and safety award at the awards ceremony on the 10th.
Beyond the Life's Good volunteer corps, LG Electronics is expanding its social contribution programs as part of fulfilling its responsibilities and role as a corporate citizen. A representative example is Visiting Career Human Books, in which employees visit middle and high schools to share job experiences and help students plan their careers. Since LG Electronics began this program in 2021 through last year, about 200 employees have served as mentors to some 2,200 students in Seoul, Pyeongtaek in Gyeonggi Province, Changwon in South Gyeongsang Province, and other areas, sharing valuable experiences.
Yoon Dae-sik, executive vice president and head of external relations at LG Electronics, said, "We will continue to support the warm hearts of employees who voluntarily participate in social contribution activities."
