The long-veiled "Galaxy Z Trifold," a twice-folding smartphone from Samsung Electronics, has been unveiled. The Galaxy Z Trifold is the first commercial triple-foldable model that concentrates the design and manufacturing technologies Samsung Electronics has built up since the first foldable phone, the "Galaxy Fold," in 2019.
Samsung Electronics unveiled the Galaxy Z Trifold at a new product Unpacked event held at the Samsung Store in Gangnam, Seoul, on the 2nd. Vice President Kang Min-seok of the MX Division said, "The Galaxy Z Trifold is a new form-factor product that balances productivity and portability, offering a 10-inch tablet-class large screen when unfolded."
◇ A large screen equivalent to a 10-inch tablet when unfolded
When unfolded, the Galaxy Z Trifold becomes a 10-inch (253 mm) tablet-class large screen; when folded, it turns into a 6.5-inch (164.8 mm) bar-type screen identical to the "Galaxy Z Fold7." Samsung Electronics said it raised durability and finish with an infolding structure that folds both screens inward and a new hinge design. When folded, the thickness is 12.9 mm, and when unfolded, the thinnest point is 3.9 mm, making it the slimmest among the Galaxy Z Fold series to date. A protection feature notifies the user with alerts and vibrations if any abnormality is detected during the folding process.
The key components are top-tier. It is equipped with the "Snapdragon 8 Elite Mobile Platform for Galaxy" and a 200-megapixel wide-angle camera to support high-performance computing and professional-grade shooting. The battery is the largest among Galaxy foldables at 5,600 mAh, with three-cell batteries placed on each of the three panels to distribute power delivery. It also supports up to 45W wired superfast charging.
The hinge uses the new "Armor Flex Hinge" and titanium material. The left and right hinges are designed with a symmetrical dual-rail structure to evenly distribute the force applied to the panels when folding and unfolding. "Advanced Armor Aluminum" is used for the frame, "Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2" for the front, and a special glass fiber composite material for the back to minimize weight gain while enhancing durability. Quality control processes were also strengthened. Samsung Electronics newly introduced inspection procedures dedicated to triple-foldables, such as checking for internal component abnormalities with CT scanning before bonding the body and display, and detecting surface defects with laser scans.
◇ Supports "Samsung DeX" for the first time on a Galaxy smartphone
For the first time on a Galaxy smartphone, it also supports the tablet version of "Samsung DeX." You can create a PC-like working environment on the device without a separate monitor and create up to four virtual workspaces, running up to five apps simultaneously in each space. By using the dual-screen feature, you can wirelessly connect to an external monitor for multitasking, such as editing meeting materials on one side while opening messenger and shopping apps on the other.
It also foregrounds AI use experiences that leverage the large screen. On the fully unfolded 10-inch screen, it supports multi-window to run up to three apps simultaneously, with flexible resizing. The taskbar at the bottom of the screen lines up recently used apps for quick switching with a single tap.
Default apps such as Samsung Internet and Samsung Health, as well as the latest "Galaxy AI" features, were reconfigured for the Trifold screen. In the Internet app, the original webpage and the summary or translation results are shown side by side, and Samsung Health lets you check health data such as workouts, sleep, and heart rate on a single screen. Image editing and creation using generative edit, sketch-to-image, and view original functions are also easier on the large screen. Samsung also loaded "Gemini Live," upgraded with Multimodal AI. Users can share the scene shown through the camera or the screen they are currently viewing in real time and receive context-appropriate information in a question-and-answer format.
◇ Domestic sales first, followed by sequential launches in China and Taiwan
The "Galaxy Z Trifold" will launch domestically on the 12th. It will be sold on Samsung.com and at 20 stores nationwide, including "Samsung Gangnam," and from the 9th of this month, experience zones will be set up at the same locations. The domestic model comes with 16GB of RAM, 512GB of storage, and a single "Crafted Black" color, priced at 3.594 million won. Samsung said it will then roll it out sequentially to global markets including China, Taiwan, Singapore, the United Arab Emirates, and the United States.
Samsung Electronics will offer benefits to customers who purchase and activate the device, including six months free of "Google AI Pro," three months free of the audiobook and lecture platform "Welaa," one free application of a genuine protective film, and a one-time 50% discount on display damage repair costs. The basic package includes a "Carbon Shield Case," a 45W fast charger, and a data cable.
