Korea's artificial intelligence (AI) semiconductor corporations MOBILINT said on the 2nd that it signed a strategic memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Japan's electronics and industrial solutions specialist corporations Uni-denka and will target the "Edge AI market."
Based on this agreement, the two sides plan to identify joint business opportunities in Japan's AI and industrial Edge Computing sectors. The MOU was signed with the aim of pre-cooperation to build the foundation for a long-term partnership.
Uni-denka is a technology and distribution corporations with a broad customer base in manufacturing, industrial equipment, automotive electronics, and Smart City fields. It supplies electronic components, sensors, and in-vehicle electronics as well as Internet of Things (IoT), wireless solutions, and industrial platforms. Recently, in step with growing demand for digital transformation (DX) and automation, it has been expanding its business scope around compact sensors and wireless devices.
The main thrust of this MOU is to combine MOBILINT's Neural Processing Unit (NPU) technology with Uni-denka's industrial foundation and on-site response capabilities. Based on this, the two sides plan to target the market for introducing Edge AI to major Japanese industries. The scope of cooperation includes: ▲ joint identification of Edge AI application areas ▲ joint promotion of PoC (proof of concept) in industrial, automotive electronics, and Robotics fields ▲ planning NPU-based industrial solutions and discussing business models ▲ sharing technologies and solutions ▲ establishing joint marketing and sales strategies.
MOBILINT plans to expand references by applying NPU-based Edge AI products to various areas demanded on Japanese industrial sites, including manufacturing vision inspection, robotic autonomous driving, and Smart City infrastructure analysis. The two sides plan to gradually expand the level of cooperation through PoC operations and test-bed construction, accelerating the creation of an Edge AI ecosystem in Japan.
Kim Seong-mo, head of business development at MOBILINT, said, "This agreement is an important starting point to meet Edge AI demand in Japan's industrial market," adding, "By combining Uni-denka's network with MOBILINT's NPU technology, we will quickly expand references and deliver tangible business outcomes in key industries such as manufacturing, Robotics, and Smart City."
Suyama, CEO of Uni-denka, said, "Uni-denka is a trusted electronic solutions corporations that has reliably supplied semiconductors and electronic components for more than 50 years," adding, "Through this collaboration, by combining MOBILINT's high-performance, low-power NPU technology with our expertise in industrial fields and customer network, we have laid the foundation to provide high value-added Edge AI solutions that can be deployed immediately on the ground in manufacturing, Robotics, and Smart City."
